Every year we make a trip to visit one of the top cities for design. It’s a chance to take in another cultures, enjoy the galleries, visit other studios, schools and of course the iconic landmarks. At the end of February 2017 we took 40 students from BA Graphic Design to New York.
This year we had a busy itinerary that included New York Film Academy, Hyperakt, Parsons School of Design, The Herb Lubalin Study Center, Red Antler, Pentagram and WSDIA.
The visits were a mix of large and small studios and covered a broad range of work. For example Herb Lubalin is reknowned for his extensive body of beautiful typographic work. While Hyperakt are a social design impact agency who work closely with their clients to create work with purpose and meaning, they concentrate on the strength of a concept and how this is translated and rolled out.
It is a great opportunity for the students to see what different studios do on a day-to-day basis and see how they work. They are able to ask questions and get hints and tips for their studies and advice for graduating and landing that important first job.
