We were so pleased to welcome Sam Winston to take part in our guest lecture series. Sam creates sculpture, drawings and artist books that question our understanding of words. The lecture began by Sam speaking with our students about what happens when they reach fourth year and fifth year! as Sam chatted with the students he drew out a map of their thoughts and soon an interesting debate was taking place. Posing questions such as ‘how can you take care of your inner soul’ but still make a living and stay true to your own beliefs and intentions as students leave an institutional setting and venture out into the workplace. Sam’s statement that “Craft is about having the quality of attention in something” struck a chord with the team. Sam left everyone in the theatre thinking about how society today seems more concerned with the consumption of culture rather than the creation. Here are some pictures from the talk….
