We had the pleasure of having Zata Banks the founder and director of PoetryFilm, give a lecture by skype all the way from Iceland. PoetryFilm celebrates experimental text/image/sound screening and performance material, and explores semiotics and meaning-making within the art form. PoetryFilm was founded through Zata’s personal practice, and through an interest in the creation, communication, perception and experience of emotion and meaning. We are delighted that our Level 2 students are taking part in a live brief with PoetryFilm.
Our Level 2 students were treated to a selection of poetryfilms, works such as Liberte by Maciej Piatek (2m17), Abstract Experiment in Kodachrome by Vorkapich (3m) and Dream Poem by Dann Casswell (1m25). Zata spoke about the value of simplicity and how important having a strong concept is to drive clever solutions. She also spoke about visual grammar, colour and culture and the psychology of perception. It was a lovely afternoon spent looking and listening. Here are some pictures taken by Amy Burstow from the skype lecture.
