Two of our Level Three students were shortlisted for the Shine Design Awards, and last week they were invited to give presentations about their designs at Coley Porter Bell in London. The brief asked the students to create new packaging for Chivas Regal whiskey and this year the brief also gave students the option of exploring moving image. We were very proud of our students Dan Kearney and Dan Hands for making it to the final of the competition. The day at Coley Porter Bell was a fantastic opportunity for our students and they were welcomed by the team and the client. The day began with a presentation from the creative director Richard Clayton, he talked about their recent re-packaging of The Co-operative, Dylon and Coutts which re-enforced how important design is for business. Coley Porter Bell spoke about the success of their Visual Planning process and gave us key insights about the role it plays in their work.
After the students presented, they announced the winner and our student Dan Kearney was awarded a commendation and presented with a beautiful package of Chivas Regal. We were then invited to enjoy a whiskey cocktail with the team at Coley Porter Bell, the students took full advantage of asking the team various questions and tips about how best to break into the industry. They also had the opportunity of speaking with the 2009 Shine Award winner who now works at Coley Porter Bell as a middleweight designer.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Chivas Regal, Jennie Plant, Richard Clayton and all the team at Coley Porter Bell for giving our students such a great day and an amazing opportunity.
