Over the last six weeks, our new intake have been keeping busy, working a wide range of quick fire projects, designed to start giving them the key skills they will need throughout their student careers and beyond.
The projects, across both the Visual Expression and Design Communication modules, focused on design basics such as conceptual thinking, ideas generation (at speed), composition, typography, and copywriting. Many of the tasks or mini-projects were completed within one studio session, and involved both solo and collaborative working. Above all, the activities were intended to be immersive and fun, with the aim of enthusing students with the potential of graphic design, and to show them how they could begin to engage with it.
The projects also introduced students to critiques or ‘crits’, where they are encouraged to talk about their work and receive helpful feedback.
